Trick, Treat…or For the Gaze?🦇🍭
Halloween has a way of mirroring the culture. As October 31st encroaches upon us, we can’t help but ask – why is everything sexy? And what does this say about us now?

From Leg Avenue resurrecting their most popular sexy costume classics for the 2025 season, to provocative spins on Horror classics, like Pennywise, Halloween trends lean towards hypersexualized caricatures to spice up its costumery. With corsets and shapewear trending year-round, emphasis on the female form has seeped into October: an unspoken pressure to be not only creative, but also desirable. For some, this can be empowering and comfortable; for others, it's not a one-size-fits-all approach of the true spirit of Halloween, which is self-expression.

At the same time, many Gen Z and queer creators this year are challenging Halloween and fashion norms by focusing more with camp, humor, and irony. DIY, satirical, and gender-neutral looks are on the rise, widening the range of costume ideas and silhouettes more accessible to the general public – challenging the idea that “sexy” is the only way to be seen.

Doechii Kicks Off her From the Swamp Tour🐊

Pic creds: @joshuamellin
The wait is finally over–Grammy award winner Doechii has officially kicked off her Live From the Swamp Tour in Chicago. Brimming with the confidence and creativity that only the “Swamp Princess” herself can deliver, she served, brought out her sisters, and had fans screaming like it was the finale.
In addition to performing her hit singles such as “Denial is a River” and “Nissan Altima,”
fans have been blown away by the rest of her setlist and mixes as well. Most talked about being a mashup of “Persuasive” with Charli XCX’s 360 plus a remix of “Slide” with Beyoncé's “Blow”.

My favorite part? Her personality, originality, and personal aesthetic are showcased throughout the entire show. With her Thom Browne couture and classroom-like elements on stage, it’s clear she’s here to school y’all about the rap game and show the girls how it’s done! As twitter user @itstheyonce put it: “she graduated with a doctorate at the Beyoncé Institute of Performing Arts and Technology.”
The Live from the Swamp Tour will visit major U.S. cities like Atlanta, Houston and San Francisco, before concluding at Camp Flog Gnaw (Nov. 15-16). So, if you haven’t already, grab your tickets now!

THE ANGELS ARE BACK ✨💗
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is stepping back into the spotlight—this time with inclusion at its core. Gone are the days of a single “angel” ideal; today’s runway embraces every body, culture, and identity. Check out the best runway looks here, with my personal favorites Alton Mason and Chloe Sevigny taking the cake.

And just like that era, beauty nostalgia is back: pink sparkly lip gloss is having its revival, with TikTok girls slicking on Tarte’s Maracuja Peppermint Swirl and Glossier’s Sparkling Rose Balm Dotcom. The message? Confidence is the best look to get you sparkling.

The Leg Warmer Revival🎀
As the cold season creeps in, winter trends are awakening from their summer slumber. This season, leg warmers are among the reborn garments stepping back into the muse’s wardrobe. When you hear leg warmers you might think leggings, leotards (ballerina chic) or plaid skirt + eyeliner (2019 e-girl). This season, leg warmers are emotionally mature. The modern legwarmer resembles a balance between the Dolce and Gabbana spring 2002 runway and Ashley Williams 2025 spring–playful, but considered.

They’re visible without overpowering, embrace texture and pattern, and—most importantly—layer and slip effortlessly into the shoe.
For your convenience, stretch out your old pair of leg warmers up to the thighs, layer over socks, and pair with a simple ballet flat. See this short and sweet pair from an action a day.
For a jaw-dropping look, wear a thin patterned or lace pair with your trusty black heels. See this button up Betty from Paloma Wool.

Now, if you want the look without the spend, skip the checkout and grab last winter’s tall socks—cut out the heel and toes and you’ve got a free, layered finish.

Winged & Wicked.
As foliage shifts from green to amber and scarlet, we’re reminded how quickly the world changes. Leaves crisp; moods do, too. And if there’s a season built for transformation, it’s Halloween.
Echoing À la Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Thierry Mugler’s Spring 1997 Couture collection presents the avant-garde fashion of the symbiosis of the human/insect hybrid. Mosquitos, butterflies, cockroaches, ladybugs, and spiders alike trade grassy gardens for regal runways to give it a distinct Halloween flair. These insects, whether commonly “beautiful,”or even an otherwise “grotesque” bug, transform into equally mesmerizing spectacles of art (and couture at that), with both bugs’ “beautiful” and “ugly” features elegantly on display.

Mugler’s heterogeneous curation of bugs marries mixed feelings of enchantment and repulsion through avant-garde fashion. With the help of the exaggerated nature of haute couture, this collection holds a magnifying glass to these tiny insects, taking their beauty from micro to macro— and hopefully changing those with entomophia into an entomophile.

Halloween is the invitation to molt. So, shed the ordinary, slip into something strange and beautiful, and turn fear into fashion, even if it’s just for one delightfully creepy night.

Fall Must Watches🍿
Tired of endless scrolling? We sifted through Netflix, Hulu, and more to bring you the shows and movies everyone’s actually talking about.
Starting off strong, Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit”, offers a visually stunning, gripping tale of chess prodigy Beth Harmon.

Hulu draws us in with “Only Murders in the Building”, a witty whodunit featuring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. Three neighbors with a true-crime obsession find themselves wrapped in a real one–cozy, clever, and absolutely bingeable! It’s as much about friendship and second chances as it is about solving a murder, making it an unexpected gem among crime dramas.

For movie buffs, Disney+ boasts a treasure trove of classics, fantasy, and Marvel blockbusters, while Criterion Channel offers a curated selection of cinematic masterpieces such as “In the Mood For Love”, “Breathless”, and “The 400 Blows”. Oldies, but definitely still goodies!

Dress for Success📚
New year, new me…right? We all make the promise not to overload, and then somehow, we’re inevitably balancing 18 credit hours, three jobs, a sorority, clubs, a social life, and a million other things. Yeah, I’m not gonna lie–it's been rough. Coming into this year, I knew I’d need a few habits to keep my head above water. So, let's get into it.
Call me that girl. In Italy I dressed up every day—and, surprise, it felt amazing. So, this year, I've made it a point to ditch the sweatpants and opt for real outfits. I’m not talking full fits everyday either. Whether it’s throwing on my trusted jeans, linen pants, or even declining to wear my Ugg slippers and opt for cute sneakers to class, I’ve noticed a confidence boost that fuels me through those grueling 15-hour days on campus.

I’ve learned it’s crucial to find staples you love– and that are actually comfortable. It sounds so simple, but I swear it’s a game-changer. What they say is true: look good, feel good.
Turns out, when your clothes feel right, everything else does too.

“Fall Palette”🍂
It is fall proper–the most pensive of seasons–with a palette artists have mined for ages. From that palette, here is Barnett Newman’s Onement, paired with the words of Mary Oliver.
“And in the evening
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way”
— Mary Oliver, “Song for Autumn”
