Nike & Kim SKIM to the Top🧗

On February 18, Nike announced a new collaboration with Kim Kardashian’s famous shapewear brand, SKIMS. According to Nike’s official announcement, the new brand, aptly titled NikeSKIMS, “will disrupt the global fitness and activewear industry with best-in-class innovation in service of all women athletes.”

NikeSKIMS’s line appears to combine the sneaker brand’s sportswear expertise with SKIMS’ knowledge of flattering women’s clothing. Their motto: “Body Obsessed.”

That phrase seems a little on the nose considering Kim Kardashian’s involvement as SKIMS’ co-founder and Chief Creative Officer. Kardashian has long been criticized for perpetuating harmful beauty standards through her extensive plastic surgeries and highly curated social media presence.

However, SKIMS’ success proves that people still aspire to be like her. Only two weeks ago, the brand made headlines for releasing butt-enhancing shapewear that Rolling Stone described as a “cost-effective alternative to a BBL.”

NikeSKIMS claims to help customers achieve a similar trending silhouette, as a recent statement by Kardashian says the brand’s products will be “meticulously designed to sculpt” wearers’ bodies.

If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll love NikeSKIMS’ first collection, which will have a limited release in American stores this spring followed by global distribution in 2026. Run, don’t walk, when it drops!

When Doechii locked eyes with the camera at this year’s Grammy Awards and declared, “Black girls, you can do anything,” one thing was strikingly clear: She had arrived. If her custom Thom Browne getup didn’t confirm it, the moment certainly did. The Tampa native’s Grammy-winning album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, is a novelty in a rap landscape filled with superficial lyricism and recycled beats.

Instead, Doechii advocates for self-honesty — a risky undertaking that lends itself to her incredible flow, which has the mastery of a ’90s Missy Elliott.  This album is a total no-skips affair, but if you have to start somewhere… I’d pick “Denial Is A River:” a cheeky, pristinely produced confessional featuring Issa Rae as her “therapist.” In classic Doechii style, she breaks the fourth wall to draw you into the glitter and the chaos of her own world — and trust me, once you’re in, there’s no going back.

In fevered anticipation of this year’s Met Gala, I offer a handful of readings tailored-made for honoring Black fashion and style. For those curious about the theme’s roots in literature and cultural history, I also recommend the works of Monica L. Miller and Zora Neale Hurston.

  1. Americanah ✈︎ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is on the host committee for the gala, which makes this recommendation particularly fitting. Even if she wasn’t, I’d tell you to read this brilliant work anyway. “Why did people ask ‘What is it about?’” she writes, “as if a novel had to be about only one thing.”

  2. If Beale Street Could Talk 𓉞 In the wake of Valentine’s Day, here’s a book to tear your heart apart. At least it’s beautifully written; that surely counts for something. Baldwin, a personal favorite, pens that “you will live with this forever, and it will spell out the language of your life.”

  3. “Bow Down to Doechii” ❁ I think that title says it all. Read the piece for the star’s biting honesty (“I don’t like secrets,” she declares midway through the interview), for insights into her artistic vision, for the stunningly styled photos, or simply to bear witness to her ascent through the industry.

These cannabis gummies keep selling out in 2023

If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That’s why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.

Mood is an online dispensary that has invented a “joint within a gummy” that’s extremely potent yet federally-legal. Their gummies are formulated to tap into the human body’s endocannabinoid system.

Although this system was discovered in the 1990’s, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes!

In this new column, we’ll cover all things travel — that is, all the spots worth saving on your Google Maps, the “hidden gems” you see online, and hole-in-the-wall places that make cities unique.

My name is Taryn, I’m a senior at Harvard, and in 2024 alone, I visited 24 countries. Each week, this column will take a tour of one city, with plenty of inspiration for seeing, experiencing, and loving the world in new ways. Happy traveling!

Feature 1: Tulum💃🏽

Just 2 hours south of Cancun, Tulum is a glittering jungle of wellness clubs, postcard beaches, and Mayan ruins, without the touristy hotel chains (and touristy prices!) of Cancun. Skip the all-inclusive resorts and check the stunning Airbnb listings, or the top-rated hostels starting at just $18 a night (yes, it really does have 5 stars)!

Within a 10 minute radius, you will find some of Mexico’s most gorgeous cenotes. Going south on the coast brings you to Zona Hotelera, where the left side of the street leads to beaches and wellness clubs and on the right side… the night clubs! Here, hotel beaches allow public access — some might require purchase of a $10 acai bowl or a $4 Corona. World-class venues like Vagalume host DJs and ticketed events next door. The local favorite is Taqueria Honorio– still the best tacos I’ve EVER had in my life (and I grew up in Texas)!

Moonlight undoubtedly has one of the best performances of subtle acting I’ve ever seen. Mahershala Ali, who plays Juan, embodies a father figure to Chiron, played by Ashton Sanders, through small gestures and limited dialogue.

Despite only being in the first third of the film, Juan’s impact on Chiron’s life prevails in hauntingly supporting Chiron into his adulthood – as seen in moments including when Juan cradles Chiron in the ocean in an effort to teach him to swim.

One of my favorite aspects of this film is its use of lighting with deep hues of green, blue, and purple emanating from the actors.
