Gold and Gucci for Eileen GušŸ‘‘

For this ski-themed issue, letā€™s direct our attention to an already established icon of the fashion and ski worlds: Eileen Gu. Gu made history at the 2022 Winter Olympics when she became the youngest freestyle skiing champion at only eighteen years old.

The young athlete is also heavily involved in fashion as both a lay admirer and model. Gu is signed to IMG Models, the same agency that represents fashion industry superstars like Alex Consani and Bella Hadid. Guā€™s own modeling resume includes world-famous brands like Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., and Victoriaā€™s Secret.

Interviews paint her as a blossoming icon for young women who love both fashion and sports. In the past, sheā€™s stated that both fuel her creativity and confidence

If you check her Instagram, youā€™ll find a whole host of elegant, sporty looks that will serve as great inspiration for your own aprĆØs-ski fits. Ski forth and dress well, everyone!

I am well and truly cold now that the air of January in my hometown has found its way into my bones. I love it in a way, the same way you love things you canā€™t imagine being withoutā€”desperately, foolishly, unendingly. Consider this a love letter to the chill of mid-winter. ā˜ƒļøiā˜•

  1. Beautiful World, Where Are You Iā€™m not totally sure why, but Iā€™ve always read this novel in winter even though it isnā€™t expressly set then. Thereā€™s just something about it, something about its reckless and heartfelt admission that ā€œwe are so stupid about each other,ā€ that makes it perfect for this time of year.

  2. ā€œOrangesā€Oh, how I love this poem, how it has sunk its teeth into me. To hold an orange, as though I were ā€œmaking a fire in my hands.ā€

  3. I Who Have Never Known Men This book was everywhere for a while, and for good reason. When ā€œmy memory begins with my anger,ā€ it is all I can do to keep out the cold.

HAPPY SKI WEEK!!!ā›·ļøā›·ļø Thereā€™s nothing like a hearty and overpriced lunch in the ski lodge to protect you from the bitter Californian winter (Obviously Iā€™m joking here. It was 65 degrees today). In memory of ski trips past and as a toast to ski trips future, letā€™s talk about chili!

To me, chili is strictly(ish) a winter-only food. Maybe itā€™s because I only had chili during lunch breaks between ski runs as a kid. These days, chili is more commonplace in my Cornellian life because itā€™s served at both Bear Necessities and Trillium.

Letā€™s also remember that chili isnā€™t just served at ski lodges arbitrarily. In my humble opinion, itā€™s the absolute best food for refueling between morning and afternoon ski sessions. Itā€™s not only hot and soupy (good for the soul), but also packed with protein due to the meat and beans it contains (good for the body).

Itā€™s also pretty simple in terms of flavor profile while still being flavorful and satisfying. No food is better at making you feel like youā€™re a weathered log cabin dweller sitting by a blazing, hand-built fire.

Skiing is arguably the best part of the snowy season. That, and the hot cocoa. And the faux fur. And the cute boots. Okay, so there are a lot of things to love when the outdoors turn into a winter wonderland, but what do you wear when youā€™re shredding the gnar? Zara has you covered. Here are my favorite snow suits that are apres approved.ā„ļø

If youā€™re more of a frolicking through the field than a skiing the slopes kind of person, this is the film for you. I had high expectations of it on account of a friendā€™s recommendation. Thankfully, it gracefully lived up to my expectations.

The long moments of silence interspersed in the dialogue drive the story forward. These pauses foreshadow the plotā€™s major tragedy, which happens so early I was left wondering what would keep the story engaging.

Though the dynamic between Leo and RĆ©mi was most vulnerably exposed in the first third of the movie, the exploration of Leoā€™s character in the rest of the film will keep you glued to your seat.

The lighting in this film is also a real pleasure to take in. At times it feels like youā€™re right alongside the main characters, basking in the sunlight with them. In such dark and wintry months as these, what else could you want from a movie?
