Vogue Hypes Up Met Gala with Ode to Black Dandyism 

Ah, May. Though most people anticipate its flowers, real fashion aficionados eagerly await the annual event on its first Monday: The Met Gala. 

In celebration of this culture-defining event, Vogue devoted their May issue to the title of this year’s Met Costume Institute exhibit. The entire magazine celebrated Superfine: Tailoring Black Style cover to cover. 

In fact, the powers that be at Vogue seem to have concluded that one artful cover wasn’t enough. The magazine instead released four alternate covers and corresponding articles starring the gala’s celebrity co-chairs: A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams. 

These “it boys” weren’t the only VIPs featured in this celebration of Black excellence. Creatives as wide-ranging as Spike Lee, Ayo Edebiri, and Anok Yai all posed in flamboyant outfits fit for any dandy. 

Behind the camera, Black artists also embraced their time to shine. Law Roach styled A$AP Rocky and many of the aforementioned celebrity guests, whereas accomplished artist Henry Taylor painted a portrait of Pharrell Williams for the singer-songwriter’s cover.

Live out your Little Women dreams at the Crane Estate, 45 minutes north of Boston.

Crane Estate and Crane Beach: Located north of Boston is this stunning mansion, overlooking carefully landscaped gardens and a tranquil beach. It’s also the perfect spot for a photoshoot — Little Women (2019) was filmed here!

Salem: Don’t leave Salem off your radar just because it’s not October — easily accessible by train, this tourist hotspot is arguably the best in its off-season! Treat yourself to some shopping and the clam chowder at Finz.

Boston Harbor Brunch: One of my favorite undergrad memories by far was seeing Boston Harbor on a brunch cruise — it was so worth the price, thanks to the tasty buffet and gorgeous blue views! 

Newport, Rhode Island: One of my first trips freshman fall was to beautiful Newport — enjoy the sailboats and shopping, historic views at the Breakers (Vanderbilt mansions!), and the acclaimed Newport Jazz festival.

SZA Launches Her New Cosmetics Brand, ‘NOT BEAUTY’🪵

SZA is launching her brand NOT BEAUTY. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter is kicking off her new cosmetic line with a series of pop-up stores during the Grand National Tour with Kendrick Lamar, where she will debut the first of her lip collection. The Grand National Tour kicks off on Saturday, April 19 in Minneapolis.

NOT BEAUTY looks to target those who seek natural products and who don’t feel represented in the marketplace.

“NOT BEAUTY wasn’t about me trying to enter the beauty market, it’s about me filling a need, it’s about me needing something that lasted as long as my show, as long as my conversation, as long as my date.” SZA shares in a press release. “There was nothing that existed that did that for me and also made me feel moisturized. I don't know much about much, but I know a lot about lips, and I feel like NOT BEAUTY is not beauty. It is just something that I wanted to share that worked for me and I hope works for you. It's really well made. It’s awesome.”

According to the press release, NOT BEAUTY is also cruelty-free, gluten-free and vegan. The launch features three signature shades beginning this spring —In The Flesh,Strawberry Jelly,andQuartz. The full lineup will include lip glosses, lip stains, lip liners and lip creams.
