Hey Nanaā¦
Dear reader,
This week, I got a letter from someone asking how to navigate friendships if everyone is always busy. Unfortunately, I think this is a common struggle amongst young people. Last week, I tried texting my friend to set up dinner plans, but the only time that worked for her was two weeks away (Thank God Iām not a STEM major!).
Even if you really care about someone and value spending time with them, it can be hard to be on the same page. It gets even harder when two friends have different levels of comfortability when it comes to socialization. Some people are fine with spending a good chunk of time in solitude, while others crave connection on a regular basis.
My honest advice is to know what you want and donāt be afraid to ask for it. If you havenāt seen a friend in a while, try saying something like, āHey, what if we planned to get dinner together every other week? That way we could see each other regularly but still have time to do our stuff.ā
It doesnāt have to be difficult, but friendship does require conscious effort. Making and maintaining friends is hard! People will always come and go in life, so itās important to put in the work for the ones that matter most.
Best, Nana

Wedding Dress Roundup
Millie Bobby Brown
Our first bride is twenty-year-old actress, Millie Bobby Brown. Brown married Jake Bongiovi, son of rockstar John Bon Jovi, in May, but only released photos of the event this past Wednesday. They wed in a picturesque Italian villa awash with golden light. The ceremony reportedly lasted a whole weekend, which gave Brown the perfect excuse to don no less than four bridal outfits.
Two of her dresses were made by Vivienne Westwood and Oscar de La Renta, both esteemed houses with renowned bridal divisions. The other two were a custom, floor-length gown by Galia Lahav and a dress of unknown origin with a satin bustier and lacy tiered skirt. The last dress takes the cake for this writer, and not just because she paired it with Carrie Bradshaw-worthy Manolos.
Rebel Wilson
Actor Rebel Wilson tied the knot with jewelry designer Ramona Agruma in September. Their small destination wedding was held in Sardinia, where they had formed precious memories early in their relationship.
The pairsā dresses showcased their harmony, with both of them sporting classic, off-the-shoulder silhouettes from the bridal designer Pronovias. Wilson styled her gown with a white belt and hairpin, while Agrumaās dress featured more decorative beading topped off with a jeweled headpiece. Anyone who saw them wouldnāt doubt that there go the brides!
Lana Del Rey
This is the entry youāve all been waiting for. Itās the one we shouted out in last weekās newsletter and which you've undoubtedly seen memes about online. The one and only Lana Del Rey ā whose legal name is Elizabeth Grant ā married wildlife tour guide Jeremy Dufrene on September 26. Their small ceremony was held at the Louisiana bayou where Dufrene works.
The details on the event and Grantās dress are minimal, but her stylist confirmed she wore a custom look by the bridal designer CINQ. It appears to have been a floor-length dress with a ruffled neckline and full skirt. She accessorized it with a white bouquet and a pastel blue ribbon (her something blue!) tied around her side ponytail.
With that simple Americana twist, LDR closed out this fallās celeb wedding season. Please rise for her āNational Anthem!ā

Welcome back! This week, Iām flying home for a snapshot of my favorite spots in the Bay Area!
Standout Successes
With three locations in the Bay, this Spanish restaurant has slowly but surely become one of my favorite places to go when Iām home from school!
The entrees are great on their own, but the best way to maximize your experience is to order a generous handful of tapas and veggie dishes for the table, topped off with one or two paellas.
My personal favorites are the patatas bravas, Cali-flower, tuna tacos, and of course the jamĆ³n ibĆ©rico.
El Torito Azteca Food Truckš®
Hear me outā¦.this Mexican food truck is not, by many definitions, fine dining, but what it lacks in formality it more than makes up for with flavor and atmosphere!
My friend and I once shared one of the best quesabirria tacos Iāve had in my life there (it was a small sample size, but still!), and the feeling of community was irreplaceable.
Coming here reminded me of just how little of the Bay Iāve explored, so stick around to discover my new finds when I go home for Thanksgiving!! ;)
Cake, Coffee, and Caffeine
Mints & HoneyšÆ
A coffee and brunch spotlight is nothing without the highlight of my last two years of high school.
From picking up waffles and matcha in between classes to meeting my friends for a quick Saturday brunch, this place has truly made a name for itself in my heart, if only through nostalgia.
My personal favorites are the fig and prosciutto toast, berries and ricotta toast, and a strawberry matcha (depending on whoās working!).
Philzā
This one doesnāt come as a surprise to anyone who lives on the West Coast!
Iām constantly comparing Cornell coffee to a cup of Philz. So far, nothing has come close to their flavorful, creamy, balanced, and just divine brews.
Is it really that good, or does distance make the heart grow fonder? Give it a try and let me know. I personally recommend a hot ether with creamy cream and medium sweetness.

Ferris Buellerās Day Off (1986), John Hughes
As someone who grew up reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Ferris Bueller hits all the right notes. In the famous opening scene, Bueller levels several Heffley-esque one-liners at the audience. My personal favorite is his pithy insight on -isms: āA person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself.ā
Comparing Bueller to Greg Heffley may insult those who consider Ferris Buellerās Day Off a classic, but I think the pair are more similar than you might think. Both come from saccharine suburban family homes with traitorous older siblings, loving moms, and corporate dads who refer to their sons as champ or bud. Only they could match each otherās male manipulator-ness, with both possessing so-called best friends whom they exploit. However, unlike Heffley, Bueller is liked by everyone around him. Therein lies the charm of this movie.
The audience tails Bueller through Chicago in his red 1961 GT Ferrari. Heās accompanied by his girlfriend, Sloane, and bff, Cameron. They go to a ball game, pace around a museum, and eat at a high-end restaurant all under the pretense of a sick day.
Bueller is the type to buy into his own philosophy whole-heartedly; admittedly, I couldnāt help but buy into it as well. Life does move pretty fast. I knew he won me over when he lip-synced to the Beatlesā version of āTwist and Shoutā in a stunning performance by Matthew Broderick. By the end, it felt like I too had been manipulated into joining Ferris Buellerās posse. Iām not sure I would consider this movie a classic, but itās a great feel-good film, an optimistic comedy one watches in their backyard on a warm summer night.
